OPEN EDUCATION GRANTS REMINDER…go for it!!
Just a reminder that this year’s Foundation Grants are geared specifically to faculty wanting to develop Open Education TEXTBOOKS. You should have received an email from Jessica Berek in Educational Affairs a few weeks ago, and I’ve attached the application here. The basics:
- Initial brief application due Friday, March 20 (name of course, number students/sections, current textbook/material costs, why you would like to pursue OER)
- Applications selected mid-April
- $200 stipend for research of existing materials in summer (due August 7, and TLETC will provide resources and directions to get you started)
- Release time for Fall 2015 and potentially Spring 2016 (TLETC will provide instructional design assistance)
- Open text utilization Spring 2016 or Fall 2016
Coming Soon…TLETC OER Resource Site
The TLETC staff (along with a faculty-based OER taskforce group) are working on a resource site for faculty to help YOU with OER. The site will contain information about Open Education Resources for those who want to learn more about what they are, information on how to get started and how the TLETC can help, links to OER repositories (both general and discipline specific) to help you find existing material, and links to many more external resources (webinars, how-to guides, discussion groups, etc.) Two takeaways:
1). WE ARE HERE TO ASSIST YOU! You would not be developing an Open Education Text all by yourself.
2). THE FOCUS AT CLC IS OPEN TEXTBOOKS Open Education Resources is a broad topic, ranging from full courses to smaller learning objects. While all are beneficial, CLC’s focus at this time is Open Textbooks. Many of these might already exist for your discipline and you would just need to review and tweak to your liking.
